This week the Woolworth’s WCellar buying team picked a white wine made from a cultivar we’d never heard of but are dead keen to try. Have a read and see why …
Our pick for this week:
Guava Colombard
R87.99, Woolworths
Why we love it:
Despite being one of the most widely planted cultivars in South Africa, colombard is a lesser-known varietal (it was traditionally grown for distilling into Cognac and Armagnac – who knew?) The Woolies wine team has worked with the Retief family to produce this unique and exclusive, brand-new quaff. A full-flavoured, juicy, fresh and crisp white, it has the distinctive exuberance of concentrated guava, with melon and pineapple on the nose and palate.
