What we’re drinking this week: Cape Saint Blaize Gin

A couple of G&Ts in the sun? Yes, please. And this range looks as good as it tastes.
December 13, 2024

We bought this gin at duty free a few months ago and can attest to it being delicious and exquisitely packaged. As a gift, it went down a treat, and so we’re glad to see that Woolies is stocking it now, at an excellent price. Reuse the bottle to keep water in your fridge. How chic.

Our pick for this week:

Cape Saint Blaize Gin

Classic/Floristic/Oceanic: was R569.99 now R499.99, Woolworths
No 7 Ochre (exclusive to WCellar): was R649.99 now R599.99, Woolworths

Why we love it:

We don’t think the gin train will ever slow down – a G&T is a perennial classic, and what’s not to love? This particularly lovely range of gins is proudly made in Mossel Bay, distilled with fresh coastal botanicals that have been foraged by hand, and distilled in small batches. The bottles are a feature themselves, having been handmade and filled by hand, too!

Classic: This is a vibrant, full-bodied gin, with aromatic juniper, multiple botanicals and pine meeting with a late burst of citrus, delivering a slight sweetness and a long, dry, smooth finish.

Floristic: A soft, floral, pink gin with gentle aromas of freshly cut flowers and plump strawberries, with notes of green rooibos and mint buchu. Fragrant, a bit exotic and very pretty!

Oceanic: With its slightly spicy flavours with toasted bark, this is a rich, woody and warm variant. It has delicate floral notes of soft cherry and cassis, and a velvety mouthfeel that is berry rich.

No 7 Ochre: Distinctive and full-bodied, this fragrant gin features lemongrass, grains of paradise, candied ginger and cucumber with freshly cut blombos and lime, resulting in a delicate floral bouquet on the palate.
