Yes, yes – we know; we’ve been ensnared by the grip of rampant consumerism. Watching the socials and scouring the shopfronts for signs of Black Friday deals might seem a bit OTT, but, come on, in this expensive world, who doesn’t welcome a bit of a saving? True, some of the alleged blockbuster “sales” are a joke (10% on select items doesn’t cut it), but we have spotted a few deals we think you might find useful.
In no specific order, they are:
New Balance has up to 75% savings on certain shoes and clothes. We think it’s a good opportunity to get yourself a pair of retro 480 highs, just like the cool kids. As an aside, if you sign up to the New Balance newsletter, you get 15% off your first order, site wide.

Ster-Kinekor has an extremely fun offer running all of Friday 29 November. For R99 you get a movie ticket (2D or 3D), a small popcorn and a 500ml drink. We know you hardly ever go to the movies, but this is a super opportunity to take the fam and go and see Wicked or Gladiator II – just like in the olden days. And you can pre-book.
Checkers has some useful Friday specials including a buy one, get one free on Finish dishwashing tablets (45, 50 or 56 pack). It’s also selling Baby Soft two-ply toilet paper 18s for R99 – which is a saving of R71, but sadly limited to three deals per customer. The Hyper is running a staggering special on the Nespresso Vertuo Pop coffee machine 1500W. It’s going for R1,999, which is a saving of R1,400. We only recently got the hang of these fancy new coffee machines and could become fans.

The Lindt website has a couple of decent site-wide sales and they’re on already. You get 20% off the Lindor singles bars, sticks and truffles boxes when you buy three or more of each and there are some heft discounts on the prepackaged pick-and-mix bags. For example, a 1kg mixed bag of the Lindor balls is usually R1,000 but right now that will cost you R600. This is an Xmas shopping no-brainer.
iStore has already had a few weeks of Black Friday promos and the tech discounts include the likes of a pretty cool R8,000 saving on an iPad Pro 12.9-inch Wi-Fi 1TB | Apple M2 in Space Grey – that means it’s going for R25,999. It’s what we have our eye on, with an Apple Pencil, obviously. The other thing we think is great is the very sizeable saving on MacBook covers. R199 for a very cool Burga 13-inch case is amazing. They usually go for R999.

Whether you’re a devout user of Dermalogica, Bioderma, La Roche-Posay, Lamelle or fancy fancy SkinCeuticals (to name a few), you must know that SkinMiles is having a site-wide 20% off on Friday. The store advises that you get your baskets ready for when the sale goes live – and apparently there are going to be further spot savings too. We’re at the computer and ready to go!
The Poetry peeps are offering 40% off all glassware, 40% off selected clothing and accessories and 20% off certain furniture and homeware. We are mad about the rugs and throws, and there are fantastic ones on offer.
The Hertex Haus 40% off sale is already on, until December 2. This is your opportunity to take advantage of price cuts on everything from select sofas to wonderful bed linen. We’d jump at the gorgeous Cotton Line duvet sets, which are going for a staggering R700 for king or super king (that’s R1,100 off).

Fab local brand Veldskoen is having a big 40% off sale. You can pick up classic vellies, or a very cool pair of girl’s sandals (we want them) or slops – aka, plakkies – all at that discount.
